I have seen many many chevy's make it to 10 years on the factory water
pump, oil pump, and even the factory radiator hose. I've even seen them
make it to 100k on the factory cap, wires, and spark plugs. By then
they aren't the smothest running engines, but by no means rough and
sputtering. I believe your statements should relate to specific
engine/car designs. Within a company they can have really crappy
designs and really great designs. One must always be careful on what
they are comparing and make sure they are two comparable items.
