JPH> It's no joke! I remember fondly the first time I saw a "The Romulan
JPH> Plot" on late night re-runs on TV in the 70's.
MM>That may have ben one of the last broadcasts anywhere, the result of
MM>copyright issues that have embroiled the Republic serials since the
MM>early 1960s. There were a few stations that had broadcast rights from
MM>movie packages that typically are good for a few years.
It probably was. I was looking for those for years afterwards. I was
only five when I saw that.
JPH> Of course "The Renegade Moon" is kind of a joke. Especially when you
JPH> take into account the cattle ranch sequences.
MM>That was part of the genra at the time. There were dozens of serials
MM>featuring many different stars that combined SF and cowboys. But you
MM>will notice from the collected research that they didn't repeat the
MM>formula in any later stories. I think they concluded it didn't work too
MM>well.
I still remember Spock during the bar brawl sequence. It really put me
on the floor, even to this day.
MM>Of course, I'm personally more interested in the radio series. :-)
You know I took my Dad with me to see ST:TMP when that first came out.
He complained bitterly that it just didn't do justice to the Radio
Shows.
I own a few of those old radio programs. Actually I own a couple of
tapes where Star Trek is a skit within the original show. The Colgate
Hour is still my favorite, but I really enjoyed the time they went on to
the Jack Benny show.
Right after that Trek was spun off as it's own show and we'll never hear
those again because of the aformentioned copyright lawsuits...
But to me Trek is a visual medium and always will be.
