Well, as far as not using standard units... I include the RTL itself as a
standard unit.  Many many isues in the RTL for *BSD in FPC.

The only way to do one yourself is to use C libraries and C calls... then you
may as well be programming in C.  :-)

Rolling your own routines for something like record locking is about as nasty
as you can get... most coders don't do this.
