-> Gee, it has been on the network news every night this week. 12,000
-> gallons per day are to be moved from CA to the recycler in East
-> Chicago IN. In railroad terms, 12,000 isn't much at all. In fact it
-> fits on one car. Shipping all of it will take about two years,
-> though. Since it's on the BNSF, it must go through Winslow. The map
-> on TV makes it look that it does not go over the Rat though. The
-> first shipment has stalled in Kansas City KS, as a resu
-> congressional protest. Blair

The rail line over the Raton Pass moves westward through Winslow. You
are right. I would think that BNATSF would not take that stuff through
a more populated area (like Phoenix). Maybe a lot of the stuff I heard
included the NAPALM train. Perhaps that is why my AMTRAK (The
Southwest Chief) was stopping all the time enroute to and from Winslow.
Just imagine what would happen if one of those cars laden with 12,000
gallons of NAPALM would have collided with the AMTRAK. That particular
rail line goes right through to the China Lake NWC (it can be diverted
that way.
---------
Yes, I saw that stuff about the NAPALM all over the network news the
night before last and last night. I didn't even know about it when I
was on board the AMTRAK. I am glad I made it home safely. Perhaps
that is why I couldn't hear anything on board. Maybe they were
maintaining some sort of radio silence.
