The Federation caught it's breath and strted upgrading it's weaponry.
remember the fleet was still pretty much decimated from the encounter at Wolf 
359, where almost all of the fleet was destroyed.
Reminds me somewhat of Pearl Harbor. US got caught with most of the Pacific 
fleet in one place, but after a year or so of hit and run type tactics and 
carriers almost being in two places at once, the tide bgan to turn.
Also, I seem to rememer a recent episode where there seem to be differences 
between the Alpha quadrant bred Jem Hadar and the Gamma quadrant Jem Hadar...
Anyway, that's sort of what I think like you said, one shouldn't let a 
ficticious universe trouble one. :)
