That is a works gospel. Anything that is contingent upon our doing
something to makes Christ's death effective is works and a heresy.
Salvation is not a gift OFFERED  but a gift bestowed. The word "offer"
is never used for Christ being offered to sinners. Salvation is given to
the elect but it is not an offer. Christ was offered once! He is to be
proclaimed to the world that God might bestow salvation upon the elect
of God.

I can use the same argument for noncalvinists as well. In fact know very
few Arminians that have a semblance of godliness and I know many
Calvinists that do.

Well I do not know who you are talking about but regardless of ones
doctrine, and false professors exist in all groups, if they are not
living according the gospel they are not saved and have no evidence they
are numbered among the elect.

It is always that way with the unsaved. I will give you an example. I
work with a guy who is a member of a church that is a real well known
Pentecostal church where a former well know rock and roll singer who
supposedly got converted is the pastor. This guy is a REALLLLLL free
willer and  is always talking to the guys about Jesus. But he curses and
swears and has the worst reputation of most men in work. One guy told me
that he said "Bob this salvation is great.If you sin you just ask Jesus
for forgiveness and everything is all right." Then this guy Bob asked me
if that is what Christianity was all about. I had a hard time trying to
answer him without lambasting this guy but I had to be truthful. This
guy WILL NOT HEAR IT THAT HE IS NOT LIVING RIGHT! One other guy mildly
rebuked him for cursing at a guy stuck in the snow in a snow storm. MAN
DID HE GO BALLASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!
My point is that these exist all over. It is a result of people offering
Christ to sinners as sinners instead of doing what the Bible says and
only call those that are weary and heavy laden. This idea that Christ is
offered to all men indecriminately is the problem. The gospel is a
pearl not to be a cast before swine. It is the sensible sinner that is
warranted to come to Christ and none else.
