I think you are possibly thinking the same way as I.
I am also at the point where I am thinking of going for the HAM exams but
don't see why I should have to learn Morse Code oops sorry HAM operators I
mean CW as this would not make me a better operator when it comes to Voice
Communications ie. SSB, this is the only side I am interested in.
I could take and pass my Novice tomorrow if I really wanted to but don't wish
to sit a stupid CW test. I am the type of person who likes to move with the
times rather than drifting in the past with the CW era.
The other side I like is Packet Radio and SSTV which is cool but again this
doesn't come close to SSB transmissions. I would say that CW must by the
loneliest form of communications bar RTTY as all voice communications can
give you an idea of what the other person sounds like, packet and SSTV can
give you a visual idea of what the other operator sounds like...CW has
nothing to off except an edge over the others for difficult communication
situations.
Anyone want to pass comment? Please do!!!
As for CB, what can you do on HF HAM bands that you can't do on CB? Pretty
much nothing, fair comment that most HAM related articles would be illegal to
use in a CB environment but hell we nearly all start from this illegal side
or SWL.
There you go, that's my money's worth...who's next?
Ciao for now.
