-> Heh. For THOSE prices, I can just buy a couple more Unidens. :)
TW> Well you get what you pay fro. And a PC controlled Scanner is FAr,
TW> FAR above any non computer controlled scanner in both Present
TW> Capabilities but the possibility of Future capabilities. Just think
TW> those smart enough to invest in one of those OptoElectronics computer
TW> control cards can do Trunk Tracking on their RS 2006 without buying
TW> another scanner. Plus you can get Less then 3 Unidens for the price of
TW> the 4 Trunk Tracking software.
What you say is true. Obviously, software has major advantages over hardware
since the software can always be re-written to deal with new advances - if
the new advances CAN be dealt with in software.
I'm not a major scannist here. About all I am interested in monitoring is
the local emergency services. I can see the advantage in the software for
someone who likes to listen to a lot of different services, though. I have
two uniden trunk-trackers, both set up identically with trunked and non-
trunked systems. One stays strictly on the local emergency services trunked
system and the other sticks with the emergency services for the locality that
are not trunked...since the scanners can't monitor normal radio signals and
scan trunked systems at the same time.
If software allow scanning both trunked and standard transmissions, I might
be interested in sprining for it.
