============================================ * Forwarded from ZONE3_SYSOP * Original To: All * Original From: Denise Webber, 3:670/213 * Original Date: Mar 28 ============================================ Just recently in the ZECC echo, the idea has been mooted that the Zone3 elist be incorporated into the zone1 elist, along with all the other Zone elists to create a WorldWide Elist of every single available Fidonet echo in the world. Adrian Walker will be administering it, though each zone will still maintain it's own elist as well. To be honest I'm not that enthused with the idea, as with it comes the sometimes rigid Zone 1 Backbone policy, which requires ALL moderators to resubmit their echos for inclusion in the Elist every 6 months, along with passwords, and all echos will now have to contain a notification of what language they are in, and country of origin. Also under consideration is a complete change of policy regarding Moderators and Echos, it has been suggested, and agreed upon by most of the various ZECs that they will be pushing for actual power regarding Moderators. They (that is Adrian Walker with the backing of Bruce Bodger) want only ECs to be able to appoint Moderators, and EC's to be able to sack a moderator from his/her job if they feel that the job isnt being done properly. This goes against what I beleive to be the accpeted spirit of Fido, that if someone creates an echo, they get to moderate it, and if people dont like it, then they vote with their feet. I can see this being open to all sorts of abuse. All this is just talk at the moment, however, it appears that if we do ever get a new IC, this will be one of the first things to be pushed for. Comments, firstly on the inclusion of Z3s Elist into the Worldwide one, I feel that this isn't MY decision to make, I babysit the Elist, feed it and make sure it doesnt wander, this is a job for the collective parents to decide, the Sysops, Moderators etc. I wouldnt dare decide on anything regarding it's future without asking the parents. Am I being paranoid, or is this the next greatest invention since sliced bread? Teddy Z3EC ...
