I hope everyone had a nice holiday!
I have a question on how parrots behave on bird stands. In general,
will parrots with clipped wings stay on bird stands or on gyms
without restraints or will they climb off of them? I haven't seen
anything about this in what I've read. I ask as a bit of data
in planning what kind of stuff to get if I buy a parrot - which
I may do shortly, I'm still not sure - and I would like to be
able to let the bird out of the cage and onto a stand or bird
gym in another room.
I'm currently looking at a juvenile umbrella cockatoo that's
known to be destructive already. He's also a biter, but I
believe I can modify that behavior as I'm trained in behavior
mod. I don't think the bird has been properly socialized.
I spend a lot of time in the den but
there's no room in the den for a cage. I can put a stand in
there or a gym though, but my back will be to the bird and
I won't be able to properly observe the bird if it climbs
down...and there's a lot of stuff in the den that can
hurt the bird if it gets down and starts chewing on
wires. I have a lot of electonic gear in there with lots
of power cords. It it gets on the floor, there will be
the potential for trouble.
The cage will be in the living room and the bird can't see me
in the den if it's in the cage.
