· As further insurance to link pet to owner, various registration services
exist for you to join, however, they are far from efficient. They each
have their own list with no system to purge obsolete information, keep
tract of address changes, sales, give-aways or deaths. They have no system
to alert scanner holders of your missing pet, no system to link your call
with that of a call from someone finding a lost or stolen pet. Most
importantly, they do not have ONE universally known place to go should one
lose or find a pet. (such as everyone knows to call 911 in an emergency)
So you ask, Why Bother Chipping??????
We have to start somewhere to find the solution. If the market - "That’s
Us", insist we stop allowing ourselves and our animals to endure this
unnecessary pain, we can stop it. Unlike so many world problems this one
has an obvious solution that should not even be subject to controversy.
The only people that should have any objections to this system working, are
the thieves making their living off our pain. We need to educate people so
that those with animals, have them micro-chipped (Veterinarians charge
between $20.00 and $50.00 and, cost should decrease as use increases)
Everyone, even non-animal owners, should assume that most pets have this
permanent identification. We need to encourage all animal orientated
professional facilities, such as veterinarian offices, pet stores, pet
shelters, and groomers, to scan every unknown animal that enters their
place of business. (My store will no longer buy an animal without scanning
them and all animals (large enough to chip) sold from our store leave with
their number and ownership certificate.) We need to force the existing
registration services to interconnect, or create a new service that would
combine data bases to form one central, universally known place to go with
a lost or found animal report. There needs to be one Web page, or a series
of linked pages, so that chip numbers of missing animals can be easily
found. i.e. I scan an animal in my store, I need one easily assessable
place to look to see if that animal’s chip number is listed as missing.
This system, when working properly, would be the equivalent to giving each
of our pets a voice to tell people their name and address. It would enable
shelters to quickly find owners, rather then wait for owners to find them
(which often happens - to late) It would save people days and days of
searching for their pets that might have met their demise on the highways,
or lost during floods and other natural disasters. It would deter thieves,
as it would virtually eliminate their buyers. It would give the power to
the estranged human to announce to the world their willingness to pay a
reward and still maintain security by keeping all personal information
listed only with the registration service.
I hope you will join me with MAJOR’S MISSION to speak, and if necessary, to
scream on behalf of your companion animal. Tell a friend, tell a group,
ask your animal publications to write about the subject, do anything - do
everything to get the word out. If I can provide you with any information
I have gathered, let me know. I have no financial interest in the success
of this venture, however, I have never been so personally passionate
towards the success of any endeavor, as I have this one. - Please Help.
God Bless,
