Maybe because they know they'd never win a fight with anything other
than another tiel? I have 3 tiels here who are missing either whole toes
or just nails, simply because they made the poor choice of climbing on a
cage wall when a conure was on the other side. (2 happened during the
same accidental escape when the tiel flight cage door was left open by a
birdsitter, and the 3rd was injured when the CONURE escaped by breaking
up a food dish!) Given the severity of the foot injuries from simple
bites through bars, I'm certain that no cockatiel could ever hope to be
victorious in full battle with any other hookbill...and they probably
know that as well.
