Description
W32/Mytob-BS is a mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan for the
Windows platform.

W32/Mytob-BS spreads to other network computers by exploiting common
buffer overflow vulnerabilites, including: RPC-DCOM (MS04-012) and LSASS
(MS04-011) and by copying itself to network shares protected by weak
passwords.

W32/Mytob-BS runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor
server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over
the computer via IRC channels.

W32/Mytob-BS is capable of spreading through email. Email sent by
W32/Mytob-BS has the following properties:

Subject line chosen from:

Good day
hello
Mail Delivery System
Mail Transaction Failed
Server Report
Status
Error

Message text chosen from:

'Mail transaction failed. Partial message is available.'
'The message contains Unicode characters and has been sent as a binary
 attachment.
'The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII encoding and has been
 sent as a binary attachment.'
'The original message was included as an attachment.'
'Here are your banks documents.'

The attached file consists of a base name followed by the extentions
PIF, SCR, EXE or ZIP. The worm may optionally create double extensions
where the first extension is DOC, TXT or HTM and the final extension is
PIF, SCR, EXE or ZIP.

W32/Mytob-BS copies itself to the root folder as:

funny_pic.scr
my_photo2005.scr
see_this!!.scr

and drops a file called hellmsn.exe (detected by Sophos as W32/Mytob-D)
in the same location. This component attempts to spread the worm by
sending files through Windows Messenger to all online contacts.

W32/Mytob-BS injects itself into the Windows Explorer process to stealth
itself.

W32/Mytob-BS also includes functionality to spawn a remote command shell
and also silently download, install and run new software.

W32/Mytob-BS modifies the HOSTS file, changing the URL-to-IP mappings
for selected websites, therefore preventing normal access to these sites.
The new HOSTS file will typically contain the following:

W32/Mytob-BV is a mass-mailing worm and IRC backdoor Trojan.

W32/Mytob-BV runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor
server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over
the computer via IRC channels, including the ability to download and
execute files on the infected computer.

W32/Mytob-BV can spread by sending itself as an email attachment to
email addresses it harvests from the infected computer, either as an
attachment with a double-extension or as a zip file containing a file
with a double-extension. W32/Mytob-BV avoids sending emails to addresses
containing certain strings in them.

W32/Mytob-BV processes the emails it has harvested by splitting them
into name and domain. Once it has sent itself to the emails it has
harvested, it uses a predefined list of names with the harvested
domains. W32/Mytob-BV spoofs the sender, sending emails as if from one
of the following at the same domain as the recipient:

support
administrator
mail
service
admin
info
register
webmaster

For example if sending itself to name{at}example.com, W32/Mytob-BV might
send the email as if from admin{at}example.com.

Emails sent by the worm have characteristics from the following:

W32/Mytob-BV copies itself to the Window system folder with the filename

Description
Troj/Proxy-M is a proxy server Trojan.

The proxy server runs continuously in the background and allows data to

Troj/Proxy-M may be installed by opening a malicious document that
exploits the "CAN-2003-0820 Word Buffer Overrun Vulnerability"
associated with Microsoft Word.

Advanced
Troj/Proxy-M is a proxy server Trojan.

The proxy server runs continuously in the background listening on a
pre-configured port and allows data to be routed through the computer.

The proxy may be used to forward spam.

Troj/Proxy-M may be installed by opening a malicious document that
exploits the "CAN-2003-0820 Word Buffer Overrun Vulnerability"
associated with Microsoft Word (see Microsoft Security Bulletin
MS03-050). The malicious document contains an encrypted form of
Troj/Proxy-M and a macro. When the document is opened with a vulnerable
version of Microsoft Word, the macro will execute (regardless of
security settings) and will drop and run Troj/Proxy-M.

When Troj/Proxy-M is first run it copies itself to <Windows>\csrss.exe
and creates the file <System>\mslogsvr.ini.

The following registry entry is created to run csrss.exe on startup:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Shell
Explorer.exe <Windows>\csrss.exe

Alternatively Troj/Proxy-M may run itself on startup by adding the
pathname of csrss.exe to the 'shell=' line in the [boot] section of
System.ini, or to one of the following registry entries:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx\LogService
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\LogService
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\LogService
