I would expect a recursion of some kind :)

XML is ordered, so it's a simply matter of looping through the XML files,
and looping through the messages contained within each, inserting them into
the DB.  There's probably a library that can dump XML straight into SQL
using a template of some sort, however that wouldn't include Fidonet
things, like dupe checks, security checks, or relaying to other nodes.
