WU>No...the times that are posted for a particular car in a MAJOR national
WU>magazine are times that are FASTER than what actually happens. I
WU>know for a fact that SEVERAL of their editors work for major car
WU>manufacturers as well, and so articles as well as times are biased for
WU>their favor.
Okay then perhaps you can explain to me why my old car, a 1988 GTA Trans
Am, which was reported to run the 1/4 mile in 15.4-15.8 seconds...ran
15.2 the first time I ever ran it, bone stock?
WU>From your statement, I know...for a FACT that you've never seen these
WU>cars run quarter mile times SIDE BY SIDE becuase I just saw some of them
WU>RUN yesterday. Our team beat an LT1 Vette last night. The Vette had a
WU>Borla exhaust, and it was a '95 Model. The VETTE even gave us a three
WU>car lead. Our car smoked that Vette but at LEAST six cars. ONE CAR
WU>LENGTH is only .10 of a second...so you're wrong on that information as
WU>well.
You are correct, I never have seen a Civic VTEC run anything side by
side. That's why I'm questioning your math. I've seen all of the other
cars you've mentioned run, and I know what they are capable of despite
what you believe. This is the whole point of my messages, to find out
the truth about how fast a Civic VTEC really is, because the different
things that you say about it don't match up. As for you beating a
Corvette, good for you. The guy was obviously a moron for giving you
three car lengths, which makes me question whether he even knew how to
really get the most out of his car. If you're gonna give me examples,
give me a heads up run against another car. Not any handicapped races
because then it's harder for me to get the idea of how fast the car is.
As for how much a car length in the 1/4 mile is worth, I'm not gonna say
I'm right and you're wrong...because I have no actual proof. That's why
I said a car length is ABOUT 3 tenths of a second, but I still believe
it's a little closer to 3 tenths than it is to 1 tenth.
WU>Imagine...putting an Integra motor that developed 196 horses at the
WU>WHEELS inside a 2200lb shell will give you about 11 or 12 horses per
WU>pound. Wait...let me guess, you also believe that when the magazines
WU>claim that a car produces 200hp, you believe that. Take into account
WU>that the engine output is approximately 20% different than what comes
WU>out after friction losses and other factors before that power gets to
WU>where it's most important - at the wheels.
Usually when a magazine reports the horsepower figures, it's less than
it really has. At least in the case of muscle/sports typed cars. I
don't know what the reason behind that is, but I'm sure you're going to
tell me I'm wrong anyway. The horsepower figures reported nowadays are
at the rear wheels, so those friction losses and other factors are
accounted for. Back in the 60's/70's they reported the figures for at
the flywheel.
WU>pretty fast cars and ALL of them do it without turbos/nitrous. The fact
WU>that you even MENTIONED supercharging shows that you are in fact
WU>ignorant in this discussion.
I'm not from Puerto Rico, I've never been there, and to be honest, I
really don't care whether they make their cars fast with natural
aspiration or forced induction. How does my mention of supercharging
show that I'm ignorant in this discussion? I have a friend with a 1990
Ford Mustang GT (25th Anniversary) with balls to the walls mods from top
to bottom...including a Vortech S-Trim blower. This is the fastest car
I've ever ridden in and I gaurantee if you rode in it you wouldn't look
down upon supercharging anymore.
Now to sum it all up, I'm not trying to get into an arguement with you.
I just want to know what the real story is because you still have yet to
enlighten me as to the true speed of this Civic VTEC your "team" races.
If your "team" is ever in the South Florida area, drop me some E-mail,
because I'd really like to see the car run with my own eyes. And I'll
even run you myself in my 86 Chevy Pick-Up truck. And if you beat me,
which I doubt you will, then you can run that Mustang I mentioned
above...and then maybe you will stop trying to make it out like I don't
know anything about street/drag racing.
Take it easy.
