JV>Hi Chris,
JV> CJ> I strongly believe that I am an adult with ADD.
JV>Why?
My son has been diagonosed as having ADD by a psychiatrist who
specializes in the disorder and it's my understanding that it is most
probably inherited.
After my son was diagnosed I did some resarch as most concerned parents
would. In a book called "Driven to Distraction," Dr. Vernon Hollowell
has a 100 question inventory. I scored very high on it myself.
I work for a nurse who's son has ADD. One day I mentioned to her that I
thought I might have ADD. She looked at me increduously and said, "You
mean you didn't know?!"
On a visit to my son's psychiatrist I also mentioned that I thought it
might be possible that I had ADD. She said it was quite probable that I
did just based on what she had seen.
However, I'm 46 years old. I've had two heart attacks. Her thoughts
are that I've gotten this far with coping mechanisms and that most of
the medications she could give me would be contraindicated due to my
cardiac condition.
I'd like to add, that I don't use the condition as an excuse for
anything. Now that I'm aware I rely more on notes to myself so that
things don't get forgotten.
Typically however, I will forget to make a note when I'm going to the
store for one particular item. I'll come back home with a half a dozen
things, but not what I went out for!
