two completely different things on your soundblaster. an OPL chip (a lot
like Ad/Lib music) and a wave chip. To load wavs on (.WAV files and the
likes) you'll have to either use a poller type routine which means you
can't do much else while you play sound, or you use DMA, which is fairly
complex, but i have seen examples, OR you use a ready-and-made library
like BWSB. BWSB is pretty good but can be a bit confusing.
 
As to the OPL chip, to test out PB's capacity to make TSRs I wrote a
fully operational background music player you can start/stop/detect
through interrupts. Code's included, if I recall correctly.
