To me it doesn't matter. But, I am reviewing my baseball sked
now. While interleague play has its merits (primarily, people
in cities get to see more players) there is a major downside.

I have season tickets to the Red Sox. My plan is weeknights
(Monday-Friday). Looking at the schedule, I have the chance
to see the Philadelphia Phillies and Florida Marlins three
times each. I only get to see the Seattle Mariners ONCE.

I only see the Yankees four times now (down from six) - and
this is DEFINITELY a traditional rivalry, not one contrived
by some sportswriters, like the imagined Patriots-Giants
rivalry. And a newer AL East rival team, the Blue Jays
are only here three times during the week. The screwball
schedule lets me see Oakland five times and Anaheim four times.

"But gee, you get to see ATLANTA!" Yeah. Once. I have been
asked by at least five people for tickets to see Atlanta.

The screwy schedule has the Red Sox playing the Montreal Expos
in September. Great timing. It has the Sox playing only 13
of their last 36 games of the season at home. It's also gonna
be fun if two or three interleague games are rained out and
have to be made up because they have a bearing on a pennant.
And, this is much more likely with the implementation of the
wild card.

I wished we had interleague play when I was a kid, because
I grew up in an American League city and never got to see
most of the National League players. But, that was in the
days of two eight team leagues. Today, I like the concept
in principle but there are some snags that have to be worked
out.
