Mmm, we are on a serious misunderstanding here, it seems. My recent
comments on this issue regarding PB's compatibility with OBJ files stems
from the fact that I asked microsoft tech support about the .OBJ format
and what they would consider the modern standard. The reply entailed
that either any .OBJ supported by LINK v5.31 -or- conforming to the
standards document SS0288 is a 'standard OBJ'. I see that PB refuses to
take this document as standard. My concern into this issue is mainly
because PB is one of my favorite programs, but this issue does reduce
it's use in low-level development somewhat. I'll have to scrap it off my
list of development tools I use & advise, as NASM has a higher priority.
I would however like to express my sincere apologies as my actions have
been taken as slanderous (?) which most certainly wasn't intended.
NB: The authors of NASM have been contacted and have put this on their
wishlist. The next version of NASM will either have this issue stated as
errata or will provide an option to generate the 32-bit form as OBJ/16
output. There may be light at the end of this tunnel yet!
NB2: The In-house linker is currently being supplied with an OBJ-> OBJ
convertor which should also solve the problem. I will see if I can get
it released to the public as limited licence freeware for any of you
interested.
