and Miss Taylor's extensive voice credits.
  * * * *  Wayne Allwine, Disney's Voice of Mickey Mouse  * * * *
Mr. Wayne Allwine has been active on both stage and screen most of
his life, making his first TV appearance at the age of seven as one of
the school children interviewed by Art Linkletter on his CBS-TV "House
Party" program. While still in high school, Mr. Allwine formed his own
acoustic folk music group, The International Singers. Wayne also was
involved in rock and pop music at the same time, working with singers
like Dobie Gray and Bobby Vinton, and groups like The Drifters and The
Coasters. He recorded with several groups, and had a hit single
("Blue's Theme") with The Arrows group.
Hoping to have a more "normal" lifestyle, Mr. Allwine took a job in
the summer of 1966 with the one company he had always admired, The Walt
Disney Studios. His start in the Disney Mail Room enabled him to meet
and talk with Walt Disney. Wayne eventually wound up working with Mr.
Jimmy MacDonald, Disney's ace sound effects wizard and the second man
to provide the voice for Mickey Mouse. Mr. MacDonald had been taught
how to sound like Mickey Mouse from the first person who ever voiced
Mickey, Walt Disney himself. Wayne Allwine was personally instructed
in sound effects techniques as well as how to give Mickey his voice,
from his dear friend and teacher, Jimmy MacDonald. After working for
eight years as Mr. MacDonald's only assistant, Jimmy at last retired
pronouncing Wayne "more than ready" to assume the role of Disney's
Chief Creative Sound Effects Person.
Wayne learned Foley Walking and Sound Effects Editing for TV and
motion pictures, working on hit films like "Splash," "The Buddy Holly
Story," "Three Men and a Baby," and "Robocop." Wayne was honored with
awards for his work on Steven Spielberg's "Amazing Stories" and Disney's
"The Great Mouse Detective." Mr. Allwine's creative sound effects can
be heard today in productions like "Disney's Goof Troop," "The Ren and
Stimpy Show" and "The New Tom and Jerry Movie."
However, the greatest joy and pleasure in Wayne's creative life has
come from his long association with Mr. Disney's favorite mouse, Mickey.
Wayne is now Disney's voice of Mickey Mouse and he has been since 1977.
After "squeaking" for Mickey that year on "The New Mickey Mouse Club,"
Wayne was nominated for an Academy Award for his first featurette,
1983's "Mickey's Christmas Carol." In 1991 "The Prince and the Pauper"
had Wayne singing and playing *both* Mickey *and* The Prince. He since
has gone on to portray Mickey in the "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" feature
motion picture and most recently in Disney's "Runaway Brain" featurette.
Wayne's Mickey can be heard everywhere: radio, TV shows, commercials
(everything from Chevrolets in America to Fanta soft drinks in Europe),
holiday specials, toys, cassettes & CDs, talking computer games,
talking wrist-watches & clocks, talking toothbrushes, many Mattel "See
and Say" learning toys, talking Golden Books and, of course, in Disney
theme parks worldwide.
Wayne's many other voices can be heard in films such as "Elvis,"
"Walt Disney -- One Man's Dream," "Roots II," the "Centennial" 10-part
mini-series, "Imagine -- A Tribute to John Lennon," "Alien Nation --
The Movie" and in the computer games "Dick Tracy" and "Arachniphobia"
to name just a few.
Mr. Allwine currently lives in the Los Angeles area with his wife
Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie Mouse (and many other Characters),
and they share four wonderful children.
