And he's right, isn't he. Where would we programmers be with systems like
Windows? Instead of wasting weeks to get our screens to work in more than
16 colours and then wonder why it does work on my computer and it doesn't
on someone else's we would be writing programs that really matter.
When you finally got the screen thing up and working we realise there is
only 300 K (because of all the overhead, TSR's, command.com's, doskeys,
smartdrv's) memory left (did'n I buy 32 megs ???) for storage of all the
pictures you would like to put on the screen.
300 K ??? How am I going to put all my BMP's in there ?? Shouldn't I use
GIF's 'n JPEG's to make things smaller and easier to put in memory? (Yes,
people are really doing it !! ) Let's have a look at te file format
specifications.....
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH.........
I don't get it. What am I doing wrong ? Why don't I understand it? Well
let's use the other option then : search the internet for nice fresh home
made source codes.
Yes Yes Yes, there's one over there! Hello, here I am. Let's try it out..
I am so exited about it. Ah, it really is powerbasic, lucky me! Just try
this large gif.

Hey, that guy doesn't use DIM ALL. No problem, I'll just turn it off for
now.

Image too large for this application. Wait a minute, this is not a
GIF-decoder. This is a SCREEN 13 GIF-viewer. And the GIF decoding piece
of software is entirely mixed into the screen output routine.
The GIF-thing finally works. Thank god I found that really awsome source
code on the ever so information supplying internet. Up to the next step.
What was I trying to build wiht this VESA-thing anyway. Yes, I remember,
it was a program that needed the mouse to be working. Let's have a look
at the mouse-routines the POWERBASIC-crew sold me. That's funny, the
mouse won't work. Why isn't it on the screen? Do I really have to write
my own mousepointer-puting-on the screen routines.
Never mind : I'm going to catch a beer somwhere...

PS. : AAAHHH !!!! that really is a relief to me.
