Since pretty much everyone can 'create' an alt. group all by himself within
a few minutes, a lot of providers don't automatically generate all 'new'
alt.* groups. Since the other hierarchies are way more democratic by
comparison, virtually all news admins add these without questioning...
Resulting is a much larger (potential) user base.

This is not feasible in an alt.* group which is 'officially' unmoderated,
I think.
The only reason alt.lang.powerbasic was chosen over comp.* by its creator,
Peter Cooper, was that at the time it seemed unrealistic to get enough
votes for a comp. newsgroup. Now, however, this doesn't seem to be as
far-fetched as it looked at the time.
Closing down alt.lang.powerbasic will be easier then creating a comp.
newsgroup... Anyway, I'm quite confident that we'll get enough votes to
create this one. That's probably the first priority. :->

you can say that again! ;-)
The Web BBS is a great service, but unfortunately they telephone company
loves it even more. :->
