I was using the term "fan" loosely, to describe anyone who frequently reads
and enjoys SF&F. Your definition is equally valid, of course. But I wonder
what definition McCrumb was using when she made her comment (that fans are
useless unless they become writers or editors).

In any case:

1. I read and enjoy the stuff.
2. I attend approximately one con a year.
3. I'm not involved in any APAs or other fannish activities.
4. I call myself a fan.
5. I'm not an author or editor, and am unlikely ever to become either.
6. I see nothing wrong with #5.

So I respectfully disagree with McCrumb.
