| subject: | Amiga `Fossil`? |
Is there such a thing as a fossil driver or the equivalent on an Amiga? Or one designed to work from a RISC chip below the level of the CPU being implemented? Ever since a couple of years ago when a friend ported his vintage 1989 CNET BBS from a classic Amiga 4000 to the current beta of Amiga One, his serial port modem won't do file transfers at all. Recently it's been freezing up the port more and more. It never comes when things are slow, like in Chat, it comes when I'm rapidly scrolling lots of mail across the screen for capture (since downloads don't work). It always ends with a diagnostic and register dump (in a tech dialect that I don't know). Then it won't answer the phone until the next time he reboots, though the telnet callers don't know anything's wrong. He is using CTS/RTS flow control, and he's been running a 56k modem locked (somewhere in the Amiga or CNET) at 115,200. I've been dialing in with a 56k USR locked at 38400 (with x00), and getting CONNECT 26400. Lately it's more often been 21600, but went back up to 26400 when he dropped it to LOCK 57600. It still hangs when I go to continuous mail scroll. --- BBBS/LiI v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 261/38 123/500 379/1 633/267 |
