That's correct. The PowerBASIC/DOS Inline Assembler supports only the 8086
instruction set and your opcodes are from the 10186, that's all.
 
An solution for your problem, would be:
 
          ! mov cl, 6
          ! shl di, cl  (4 steps on a Pentium, 8-30 on a 486 cpu)
