-=> On The 02 Apr 98 20:24:10 Jonathan screamed Sega Katana at Tom <=-
TA> The Katana or Dural or whatever is reported as having a
TA> 12 speed CD drive..
JF> You sure about that one? Got a source? The last I heard about the
JF> Katana was courtesy of Next Generation, which said it would be a 4X
JF> drive. I'm not saying you're dead wrong, it's just that I don't think
JF> a 12X drive is that likely.
Why not.. 4X cd's arent even in Dev any more.. a 12 speed propriatory
CD-rom would cost less than Seg building their own 4X
TA> What I don't understand is why did Sony license CD technology to Sega..?
JF> I doubt THAT happened! Sony isn't quite that eager to shoot itself
JF> in the foot.
That DID happen.. Sony & Phillips Developed CD's in 1982 (Thats when CD's
were released.. They were obviously in development b4 that).. So anyone
wanting to use a cd drive in a device HAVE to license it from Sony (The
Patent/Copyright holders..)
