Don't they teach you a couple of languages in school? My stepdaughters
15 and 17 YO have Dutch, English, German and French lessons in school.
Their first lessons they got at age 12. This does not mean they speak
and write it like natives do but they learned enough to read a book or
have a conversation in any of those languages. Once you have that basic
education it is easy to pick up other languages like Spanish, Italian or
any other language.
