John, I don't know where to begin to start... but perhaps lets start with the
fact that I don't own a SupraExpress. I own a SupraFAXmodem (28.8), I've
owned it for 2-3 years now. I know what features it supports.
On the internet, I found a good price on a SupraExpress 56k modem. I'd like
to upgrade to a 56k modem, but I'd only be willing to replace my SupraFAX
with another modem if the replacement modem supported Caller ID and
distinctive ring.
That's where this conference comes into play. I asked in this conference if
the SupraExpress supported CallerID and distinctive ring. I've received a
number of "helpful" replies on what the SupraFAX supports, but as you can see
that's not answering my question, is it?!?
I did eventually get an answer that it doesn't support CallerID, but I find
responses such as yours rather interesting. I'm curious as to why you would
quote info on a SupraFAXModem when someone asks about a SupraExpress modem.
If someone asked what FAT32 was, would you explain NTFS, or HPFS file systems
to them? If I owned a USR Courier modem and I wanted to know what features
the SupraExpress modem supported would you tell me to type in ATI10?
JR> WZ> How should

JR> Those "commands" work on SEVERAL Supras, INCLUDING the SupraFax that I
JR> have...
Yes, but it should be painfully obvious that just because the SupraFAXModem
supports CallerID, the SupraExpress modem doesn't necessarily support the
same, right? If the Express had the same funtion as the SupraFax, what's the
point in having 2 modems with the only difference being the name? The only
thing that the modems share for certain is manufacturer.
JR> The ATi10 probably would have shown you... Here, this is a "cut" from a
No, it *WOULD* *NOT* have shown me *ANYTHING* because I don't own a
SupraExpress to type the command on. That's why I was asking the question in
this area..... with the hopes that someone who actually either owned a
SupraExpress, or knew the answer for certain would reply.
JR> The command string buffer on the SupraFAXModem is limited to 200
What's the limit on the SupraEXPRESS? Should we make the assumption that
because it's 200 on the SupraFAX that it's also 200 on the Express? It may be
a good assumption, but it may not necessarily be correct.
JR> So, ati10 will show I10=Supported Feature Code List..
Your point being? How is this answering my caller ID question about a modem
which I do not own?
JR> Your welcome
For what? Are you expecting a "thank you" because you're telling me something
completely useless? Well, thanks... I guess...?!?
JR> Life is Great.!! John R.
True, but there should be limits to the amount of stupidity that one is
subjected to at any given moment for any particular question.
TTYL....
