I am not a satellite design engineer, but I will venture
a guess. I think about 1 watt illuminating a 25
foot reflector on C-band would be plenty for a
communications grade voice channel. I do
not know what the ERP is. I guess multiply the power
by the antenna gain to get ERP.
I still think a more practical system would be something like
3 or 4 watts on Ku-band to a 7 foot reflector. The smaller
dishes are much cheaper, and that power level can be
generated with solid state equipment :)
