Re: tube amp equpment > > Is anyone here into tube amplifier audio equipment? Building, restoring, o > > just enjoying? especially tube type guitar amps? I am. I have an old Fender Twin reverb I bought in '71. I have a mid seventies Peavy Mace with six 6L6GC tubes in it. Now that I have taken up bass, I'm looking to buy a hybrid amp with a valve preamp stage and a solid state power amp stage. I like the tone but I need to decrease the expense. I just re-tubed the Peavy and it was a small fortune at about $90.00 :( I've been drooling over a Merlin amp from Germany. It's solid state but has one 12Ax7 in the preamp stage for some of that warmth and punch. The power amp is solid state and it has a 21 lb Torroid transformer. If I could afford the tubes I would get an Ampeg SVT Classic. That think has so many valves it will heat up your house. A friend of mine had one and the lights would dim in concert with his bass playing.
