Rockwell Semiconductor Systems Ships V.90-Based 56Kbps Modem Chipsets
Rockwell customers can now proceed with final product integration and
roll-out plans
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Feb. 9, 1998 -- Rockwell Semiconductor Systems
announced today at its analyst meeting here that the company is shipping
client-side and central-site modem chipsets incorporating new V.90
specifications that the ITU finalized last week.
Rockwell's chipsets include both the ITU's new V.90 specifications and
its popular K56flex technology to give consumers the broadest possible
flexibility during the industry's transition to the new 56Kbps modem
standard. This ensures continued and reliable 56Kbps connectivity for
both client-side modems and central-site equipment as Internet Service
Providers (ISPs) begin deploying service for the new V.90 standard.
"We are pleased to be taking this first step toward making ITU-standard
56Kbps modems a reality for speed-hungry Web browsers," said Moiz
Beguwala, vice president and general manager of Rockwell's Personal
Computing Division.
Rockwell-based modems are used in more than 65 percent of all 56Kbps
internet access modem ports in more than 30 countries worldwide. This
represents the largest installed base of 56Kbps modems that will now be
upgraded to V.90.
Rockwell's V.90-based modem chipsets are shipping in volume quantities
and include versions for desktop systems, mobile computers, and
central-site modem equipment. The RCDL56ACF chipset for desktop systems
and the RC56CSM chipset for central-site modem equipment are both priced
at $42.50 per unit. The low-power RCDL56ACFL chipset for mobile
computing applications is priced at $49.50 per unit. All prices are for
OEM volumes.
