The first thing that came to my mind is how well shielded the radio
receiver is from the TV receiver.  That could be causing problems.

Remember that the radio receiver is dealing with RFI from inside the
computer.  If it's not shielded good enough, that can block out
stations.  Do you have a slight whine when you scan through the band?

Secondly, I'd get an external antenna that is of pretty good size -
about 10 to 15 feet.  That might solve your problem there.
