Are you talking about a SupraExpress modem? I recall once a discussion in 
here about a problem which sounds familiar to what you're having. The problem 
is however that there wasn't NVRAM in the express model of the modem. If 
things haven't changed since then (it was alteast a year ago) and you're 
using a supra express, that could explain the problem you're having.
