I've backflashed mine before with no damage.
As long as the orignal flash wasn't some huge jump from a really low version 
to a really new one, I don't see any problems. I haven't had any. I've 
flashed from (I think) 25 back to 23 -  at one time I had also backed up to 
some version in the teens.
