If the interchange of ideas can take place with out personal attack;
If peoples right to their opinion is respected,
If disagreement is with the ideas not the people
THEN  I think we would have more discussion...

I think a lot more people than those who responded read in here.  I also 
think that not all topics are not within some peoples sphere of interest.
What we probably need is a few more threads.
How about starting one?
I think a good whole language programme incorporates phonics.  In fact you 
can't teach whole language without it.
