*** Quoting Sheila King from a message to Kevin Crosby ***
-> I'll have to dig through my files section for the text file to get
-> the exact report name and date, but it was a U.S. Dept. of Justice
-> report which stated that an estimated 68 million households in the
-> U.S. had a firearm of some type.
SK> How many households nationallY?
68 Million.
->
-> SK> Thanks for the synopsis. I would've had no idea otherwise.
->
-> Perhaps this points to the source of the problem....ever hear "guns
-> kill" or "a
-> child is killed by a handgun every xxx seconds"? The emphasis seems
-> to be on villifying the tool, not on education on proper and safe use
-> of the tool.
SK> OK, my ignorance of the particular name of a gun education program
SK> run by the NRA is evidence that people blame guns and not lack of
SK> education for deaths? C'mon! That's ridiculous.
SK> Sheila King
Perhaps I could have phrased that differently. That was not directed at you
personally. I simply meant to illustrate that the main focus of the media
seems to be directed at "evil firearms", not at education. Anti-gun
advertisements are run as "public Service Announcements", while pro-gun
advertisements are generally paid advertisements.
But, since you used the word "ridiculous"...how many ads/articles -have- you
seen that blame a lack of education for improper use of firearms? How many
have you seen that blame the existence of the firearm?
It is not my intention to start a flame war or disrupt the echo in any way.
I admittedly have a problem with the fingers typing faster than my brain
works. Please accept my apologies if it seemed that I was making a personal
attack.
Kevin
