CL>The final condition follows from the first. If the learner
CL>is to come to pursue the truth for themselves, the reasoning
CL>they come to employ must genuinely be their own, and not
CL>that of their teachers or other influential people.
This is almost a definition.. Of COURSE this
will be "their" reasoning; for it to be otherwise,
they would have to be automotons. Their
reasoning will be affected by the information
provided, however, and this can be shaded; as we
all well know...
CL>It is inconceivable that people could come to do this through
CL>processes in which they were unwitting or involuntary
CL>participants.
Hardly... First of all, most people PRESENT
themselves to be educated, however involuntarily.
This presumes their agreement, ALSO however
involuntarily that may have occured (kids don't
go to school willingly, in general).. Secondly,
people CERTAINLY "learn" things through processes
which are covert AND involuntary! People learn
through exposure, and exposure doesn't have to
be voluntary....
CL>Feedback invited.
Here y'go.... ;-)
