First, I'd like to admit for the record that I am not an "educator", except
in the sense that I feel it my responsibility to ensure that my child can
recognize letters and numbers, read at a very basic level, etc. -before- he
enters the school system.
I would like to hear your opinions on two subjects which are currently "hot"
topics in the local area.
1) Year-round schooling. What benefits accrue to the students in a
year-round school environment? What affect does this have on instructor
preparation?
2) Uniforms. A local school has instituted a voluntary uniform program for
the students. How much do uniforms in a public school actually help
discipline and the self-esteem of the students? What negative influences, if
any, do uniforms have on the development and education of the student?
