GA>What's so good about DeTomasos? Is that Italian?
No, German..
j/k, yeah its Italian.
email me if you want details, but for everyone else, a DeTomaso Pantera
is basically Ford's answer to the rising need in the 60's for a GT
sports car to compete with the others. DeTomaso was struggling, so their
partnership seemed reasonable. They made the Pantera, which was largely
a DeTomaso car, but with a Ford engine, and sold in the states by Ford
until 1974. It was a rear mid-engine, rear wheel drive 2-seater coupe
with a very unique styling.. you'd have to see one, I can't think of
anything its similar to. Anyways, as with most DeTomaso cars, it had a
Ford V8 engine, the 351C. It had a more sophisticated engine management
system and fuel delivery system than the typical 351C, but was still a
Ford, hence the cheap price for this exotic. The interior was all
leather, and it had a 5-speed manual transaxle. The most recognizable
feature about the car is from the rear. The rear fascia is mounted
extremely high, exposing the transaxle, axles, suspension, and tires, as
well as the exhaust pipes. The cars came stock with approximately 300
horsepower, but many owners modified their cars, some approaching 850
horsepower under the stock hood.
