NC> ATI? They do the factory fitted/bog standard Mac video hardware. I
ink.
Not as of late, though it's stilll not perfect. The Rage Pro chipset is
about 3Dfx-level in performance... but it's a 2D/3D board! I'd still grab a
Voodoo 2 board if I could, but it runs Quake II well enough.
Oh, and that reminds me... there probably won't be a Quake II for the PSX!
:-) It can't handle it as well as a PC can.
NC> Great.
Hey, bump-mapping isn't exactly a quick operation to do. The video board
has to do it for EVERY texture to look right. On the plus side, it looks
very nice indeed.
JF> decides it won't affect their profit margin.
NC> :)
Hey, it's true. Something that bugs a lot of PC gamers is that some
companies are outright stiff and uncaring when it comes to gaming. Matrox
promotes their m3D... because they have to. 3Dfx promotes their Voodoo 2
chipset because they KNOW it's the fastest on the block right now.
NC> If we had free local calls. Which we ain't got, and
NC> aren't likely to get very soon either :(
Move to Canada - you'll enjoy it a lot more. You get practically
everything game-related (except European software) faster, including the
games themselves and the magazines about them.
NC> I ain't played it, still amusing myself with my brother
NC> Saturn and the few games he bought for it. :)
Give it a shot (especially if you get a "ninja PC," as you Brits call
them); you'll like it. The fun thing is that, unlike most racers, your craft
doesn't handle "a lot like" anything. The best description would be that of
a Jet Ski... combined with a motorcycle, combined with a grappling hook
(which you use to wheel around tight turns).
I would advise trying Jet Moto 2, but I hear the track style is usually
either A) similar to Jet Moto 1, or B) not as fun as Jet Moto 1.
NC> :) In the studio I'm freelancing at they have a P300,
NC> /just/ a bit nippy. Spends most of the day utilising
NC> all that power playing FMV clips on the screensaver.
NC> Great.
Now that really IS a waste of hardware. At least use it for 3D modeling or
high-end graphics work, even if it's just for a fancy logo!
