Glad that you liked them.
Where did I come up with them? Well, I'm alot older than I look. Graduated
from Berklee in Dec of '79 (Pre MIDI(!)). Played that song and about a
million others like it since. Simple harmonic substitution, m'boy...
Look at the notes in the chords, and look at the notes in the melody. Think
of what a good bass like to be in counterpoint to the melody, and then fill
in the substitutions with whatever fits.
None of this stuff comes quickly at first, but when you do a little studying
and then use that knowledge when you play, it becomes second nature, and you
no longer have to really think about it. Could you go to another country and
just start speaking their language without learning it? Music is just another
language, and until you learn it, it won't make any sense. I couldn't go to a
conference of biologists and understand a thing they said. I Know... I've
played for some.
Right now, time is a problem as far as taking on much more of anything, but
I'll be glad to consult with you on whatever you might ba having problems
with. You can email me at lopguys@aol.com, or leave me amessage here.
TTYL!
