-> WC> No it was the color gun driver transistors to an RF shield. -> WC> Got so hot it blackened and discolored the pins on the CRT. -> WC> Could have fixed it if the pins hadn't accompanied the socket -> WC> removing it from the CRT :-( -> WC> About three pins came loose. -> Oh... That would have been so hot as to liquefy the glass! The pins were all blue - blackened, Such a STUPID design flaw caused it too. -> WC> The H.V. anode lead. -> WC> Yeah they can be lethal for days in a low humidity environment -> WC> even unplugged. -> Present! 93 percent humidity today down here. -> WC> All my monitors require long reach screw drivers to remove the -> WC> cases. -> I don't want to mention the trick involved in opening up the NEC. What a DOG! -> ...Er, should I call it a bitch? ...Er, I don't want to insult a canine!!! -> Hey... Just a PS if I may. (Like you could stop me. ;-) -> I just read the latest in your JH debacle. You know he is just trying to cover -> his butt, right? I too know the "You must be paranoid." insinuation, so I can't -> be partial on that one, but little does *anyone* know the "stuff".we have to -> deal with, specifically regarding this 'hobby.' Yeah, should have followed my instincts. There were two very glaring inconsistencies with Jim's claims. I mean he made claims for that card Promise Tech didn't document and the first time I tried to "load Windows first" it failed non-destructively. But by this time I was on a mission so I fdisked with Linux setting the first partition 0C for C;, set is active with the rest carved up for Linux. It was then that the OEM Window's software installation CD's defective fdisk saw C: and failed the drive catastrophically. The paranoid comment came in private e-mail, 20 minutes later I followed his advice and killed the hard drive :-( -> I know, "If he'd only shut up." /-: Really, It's annoying. Now he's on about me plugging the IDE cable in incorrectly. It was dead on right and still the ATAPI drive wasn't recognized until I swapped it back to thge motherboard I/O. The Ultra66 requires DRIVERS, the drivers were obn the CD. JH pushed all my concerns aside and assuring me all would proceed smoothly said just do it because "your caution borders on paranoia." In the end I should have know better and should have left Windows off this machine. Oh well, I've got that now. I've vowed no more Windows for me. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
