Well, I find the Select Button very usefull, take the Demo CDs that you get
with OPM and The Jam Pack Volumes... When you play, you get to use all the
controls in the real game, the Start button pauses, the Select button will 
quit
the game...  Other games, like Black dawn, where you have more then 10 
uttons
combinations I.E.
O- Missile
Triangle- Increase Speed
Square- Decrease Speed
L1- Go up vertically
L2- Go down vertically
R2- Change View
R1- Toggle Map
Select+X- Change "bullet" type gun
Select+O- Change missile type ammo
it goes on, if you want, i'll put my demo-cd in, and tell you all the 
"options"
you have.. And it's not the only game I have seen using the Select Button,
when there are many options available to you.
