DAG> 13 Banned Foods Still Allowed in the U.S
DAG> You think the FDA has your back? Sure, they recently
DAG> proposed two new regulations to up food safety measures,
DAG> specifically how food processors and farmers can work
DAG> better to keep their fresh products free of dangerous
DAG> bacteria (remember that killer cantaloupe outbreak from
DAG> 2011?). But while it may seem like the government is out
DAG> to protect us from bad—even fatal—food-borne
DAG> illnesses, which cause some 3,000 deaths a year, they
DAG> don't completely have our best interest—or health—in
DAG> mind.
No, like any other public agency, they are subject to outside
influence. In this case, money spent on congress.
DAG> “For numerous suspicious and disturbing reasons, the
DAG> U.S. has allowed foods that are banned in many other
DAG> developed countries into our food supply,” says
DAG> nutritionist Mira Calton who, together with her husband
DAG> Jayson Calton, Ph.D., wrote the new book Rich Food, Poor
DAG> Food due out this February.
The very fact that the US fights to have GMO foods sold in
European countries where they are not allowed is evidence of
that.
I am in favor of science, but safety is first. We shouldn't have
to prove it's dangerous, they should have to prove they're safe.
