.h.gT.nhis is the story of the hare who lost his spectacles.h.y..n
.h.gO.nwl loved to rest quietly whilst no one was watching.h.y..n
.h.gS.nitting on a fence
one day.h.y,.n he was surprised when suddenly a kangaroo ran close
by.h.y..n .h.gN.now this
may not seem strange.h.y,.n but when .h.gO.nwl overheard .h.gK.nangaroo
whisper to no one in
particular.h.y,.n .h.y".h.gT.nhe hare has lost his
spectacles.h.y,".n well.h.y,.n he began to wonder.h.y..n
.h.gP.nresently.h.y,.n the moon appeared from behind a cloud and
there.h.y,.n lying on the
grass was hare.h.y..n .h.gI.nn the stream that flowed by the grass a
newt.h.y..n .h.gA.nnd
sitting astride a twig of a bush a bee.h.y..n
.h.gO.nstensibly motionless.h.y,.n the hare was trembling with
excitement.h.y,.n for without
his spectacles he was completely helpless.h.y..n .h.gW.nhere were his
spectacles.h.y?.n
.h.gC.nould someone have stolen them.h.y?.n .h.gH.nad he mislaid
them.h.y?.n .h.gW.nhat was he to do.h.y?.n
.h.gB.nee wanted to help.h.y,.n and thinking he had the answer began.h.y:.n
.h.y".h.gY.nou probably
ate them thinking they were a carrot.h.y.".n
.h.y".h.gN.no.h.y!".n interrupted .h.gO.nwl.h.y,.n who was
wise.h.y..n .h.y".h.gI.n have good eye.h.y-.nsight.h.y,.n
insight.h.y,.n and
foresight.h.y..n .h.gH.now could an intelligent hare make such a silly
mistake.h.y?".n
.h.gB.nut all this time.h.y,.n .h.gO.nwl had been sitting on the
fence.h.y,.n scowling.h.y!.n .h.gK.nangaroo
were hopping mad at this sort of talk.h.y..n .h.gS.nhe thought herself far superior
in intelligence to the others.h.y..n .h.gS.nhe was their leader.h.y,.n
their guru.h.y..n .h.gS.nhe had
the answer.h.y:.n
.h.y".h.gH.nare.h.y,.n you must go in search of the
optician.h.y.".n .h.gB.nut then she realized that
.h.gH.nare was completely helpless without his spectacles.h.y..n .h.gA.nnd
so.h.y,.n .h.gK.nangaroo
loudly proclaimed.h.y,.n .h.y".h.gI.n can.h.y'.nt send .h.gH.nare in
search of anything.h.y!".n
.h.y".h.gY.nou can guru.h.y,.n you can.h.y!".n shouted
.h.gN.newt.h.y..n .h.y".h.gY.nou can send him with
.h.gO.nwl.h.y.".n .h.gB.nut
.h.gO.nwl had gone to sleep.h.y..n .h.gN.newt knew too much to be stopped
by so small a
problem .h.y".h.gY.nou can take him in your pouch.h.y.".n
.h.gB.nut alas.h.y,.n .h.gH.nare was much too big
to fit into .h.gK.nangaroo.h.y'.ns pouch.h.y..n
.h.gA.nll this time.h.y,.n it had been quite plain to hare that the others knew
nothing about spectacles.h.y..n
As for all their tempting ideas, well Hare didn't care.
The lost spectacles were his own affair.
And after all, Hare did have a spare
a-pair.
A-pair.
