Actually, Frankfort is a mispronuciation that came to be the name eventually,
I think.  Frankfort was originally Lee's Ford.  When a fellow with the last
name of Frank was ambushed here, they renamed it Frank's Ford.  Eventually,
that became Frankfort.
 
There may be 14 cities named Frankfort in the US, but the one in Kentucky
is not named after the German city.  That leaves 13 that might be.  ;-)
 
However, the Kentucky cities of Versailles, Paris, and London would appear
to be named after European cities.  ;-)
