While tripping merrily through the mail, Walter Five was overheard
WF> That's *not* the band "Great Society"; I *thought* it was the Fugs--I
WF> have their first four LP's--but it's not on any of 'em. It *might* be
WF> a National Lampoon Radio Show parody though. "Great Society" didn't do
WF> any 'parody' songs. Come to think of it, it *might* be Vaughn
WF> Meader--maybe his follow-up album to "LBJ Ranch"? (I'm listening to
WF> the Fugs "Live at the Fillmore East At Last!" album right now as a
WF> result of that aforementioned check--one the things I really *like*
WF> about talking about records like this...having a good excuse to dig
WF> through the collection and pull out a couple of things I haven't
WF> listened to in recent history...
The only Fugs I have is the first album, "The Fugs" (The one with the liner
notes by Allan Ginsberg). Do you still have the "Fold-in" from "The Fugs
Want To Thank You"? (Not suitable for all audiences ).
This was not so much a parody as an ironic satire, very much along the
lines of Simon & Garfunkle's "Silent Night / 11 O'Clock news".
