subject: fidomsg.xml

Tonight I am going to start defining fidomsg.xml. Next I am going for
fidopkt.xml. I've told Chris Cranford of my plans. Fido is dying fast and
technology or falling behind in technology is the reason why. So... I am going to startup some new technology. I am
going to run with the last thing completed for the nodelist.xml, and get a
message and pkt format done. I hope Chris will work with me on setting
something up to make joining the new version of "Fidonet" easier. Maybe
Chris can start cracking on his mailer and make it support some newer
technology like the XML nodelist. We can backend everything with sql and oh
yea, do something with that DNS we talked about.

My goal will be to develop some technologies geared towards the BBS and the
BBS user, yet allow us to share information between our BBSes.

When I get version 1.0 of fidomsg.xml completed I will write a utility for
fidomsg.xml *.msg. Now maybe someone more versed in a more cross
platform language will be willing to step up and help. My goal is to not
stay tied to being fully fido *.msg/*.pkt etc compatible in the future. I
will let others decide if that is where they want to go with their
utilities.

We will need someone to step up with a good web interface for
reading/replying to messages. We will need someone to step up with a good
offline reader (like QWK). Here I think we can provide an XML.pkt instead of
QWK. My buddy Maurice Jeter (QWK reader Durango) may be willing to do
something for off--line readers. Soon he will be out of the airforce and
will have time for such stuff.

With best regards, Dale
