Early Rockwell chipset V.34 modems did not support asymmetric connects -- it 
is an optional part of the standard.  Take a look at bit 50 in the modulation 
parameter sequences (either MP0 or MP1) which is set to 1 to indicate a modem 
capable of asymmetric data rates.
