Only one way that I know of.  Buy a quality modem that can handle that
severe line disturbance.  Hopefully the modem on the other end will
hold on too.  My Sportster hardly misses a beat when the wife picks up
the extension.
I doubt that any of the Rockwell based modems will do it for you.
